UTF-8
Abbreviation for Unicode Transformation Format – 8-bit
Definition
UTF-8 is a widely used character encoding that defines how letters and special characters are stored as data. If a file is written in a different encoding than it is read, accented characters often turn into replacement symbols. The encoding is therefore part of the agreements for file exchange.
